MADISON’S
STORY
A Good Samaritan found a cat hit by a car in the road. The cat was presented to a veterinarian for treatment who was a VETEGA participating veterinarian.
On physical exam, the cat was an adult female spayed domestic short-haired breed, stable condition, non-weight bearing on right front with suspected luxation of the right elbow, and mild road rash (scrape) on her chin. The owner was found and came in and positively identified her cat. The owner was unable to afford the radiographs and treatment estimate and was considering euthanasia. VETEGA approved up to $300 in treatment assistance and the owner agreed to pay $100.
A right elbow luxation (also called dislocation) was confirmed in “Madison” via radiographs. Madison was anesthetized, the elbow luxation was reduced and a support bandage was applied. Follow up radiographs confirmed the reduction. She was started on pain medications and sent home with the owner. The owner gave follow up reports that Madison was doing well.
Cost to VETEGA: $217.12.
Cost to the owner: $100.
Donation of veterinary services: $72.37.
Cost to Madison: Priceless!
